VISTA, California, April 7, 2022Soroptimist International of Vista and North County Inland held a QuarterMania! Fundraiser on Sunday, March 20 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Vista Optimist Club. Doors opened at noon for check-in, lunch and viewing the vendor booths. The auction started at 1 p.m. Tickets were $30 and included bidding paddle and poker chip, chicken caesar salad, roll, non-alcoholic drink, dessert and coffee. There was an opportunity drawing plus a silent auction with items such as a Charcuterie Board “basket,” handcrafted jewelry by a local artisan and more. Participating vendors include Nice & Bella Jewelry, Popcorn Factory, Hotel Life Sheets, Sweet Treats, Tupperware, unique clothing and food vendors and more. In addition to the auctions, attendees could purchase items, many of which were offered at a 50% discount by the vendors.

The turnout was good and, as usual, many happy guests went away laden with gift baskets won and items purchased.

In QuarterMania, each guest gets a numbered paddle and a correspondingly numbered poker chip, which they place in the auctioneer’s drawing basket. The auctioneer displays an item and states the number of quarters needed for a chance to win that item. Usuall the number is between 1-3 quarters for any item. At least one item was auctioned for 4 quarters. Guests may bid on the item by placing the specified number of quarters into a small bucket on their table and holding up their paddle. The buckets of quarters are collected, and the auctioneer pulls a random numbered chip from the drawing basket. The bidder holding the paddle that matches the number pulled wins the item. If the number pulled did not bid, another number is pulled until a winner is found.

All funds raised went into the club’s Service Fund to be distributed as educational grants to women in need.
